I am a quilter

In late 2019 for some reason I got it in my head that I wanted to take up quilting again. And I say again as though I ever really did it…I didn’t. Not really. It was something we did as a group, with Church, but it had made an impression on me. I remember loving it, but it wasn’t something kids my age did, so it quickly fell by the wayside. So, back to 2019 and my ambition to become “a quilter”. I told my husband what I wanted to do, and he was so supportive (still is). He arranged for me to get a sewing machine for Christmas and I started my Fabric acquisition degree, which resulted in a few missteps and a few trips to Hobycraft.

I joined a quilting group on facebook and started sewing half square triangles, I was on a mission, not sure where too, but I was going to be a quilter, that’s all I knew. Flash forward to the beginning of the new year and I had decided the half square triangles needed to wait, I wanted to make a real quilt.

So, once again I started cutting and sewing. I’d already kind of decided I was going to give it to my husband when halfway through sewing my strips he asked if the quilt would be for him, how could I refuse? Weeks passed and I created whenever I could, determined it was going to be perfect. It wasn’t, it was far from it, but that didn’t matter, he loved it. It’s got wonky seams, and places where I fear it will come apart cause my 1/4″ seam is more like a 1/8″ seam. My seams don’t line up, my binding sucks, there are puckers, and well, it was pretty amaturish. Actually, that’s ok, because I was (still am) an amature, but I was a quilter, I had completed my first full quilt, all on my own, and what an accomplishment! And he loves it!
