Mini Quilt swap

Last year I participated in a mini quilt swap. I was newly returned to quilting & I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing. This swap was secret, we were matched up with another participant, but didn’t know who was making for us. We had to “stalk” our swap partner, asking questions of our whole group, and secretly noting the answers we got from our swap partner, while the rest of the group was doing the same. I had a lot of fun but my swap partner didn’t really take part, she didn’t answer many questions, & I really struggled for ideas on what to make her. I made a mini, and sent it off, not happy with what I had done, but I had done my best.

The idea I came up with, from her facebook was to make an accidental landscape, which is a method of creating quilts created by Karen Eckmeier, also known as The Quilted Lizard.

I dutifully cut out all of my pieces, once my chosen fabric had arrived, laid it out in so many ways I lost count and probably should have stopped playing with it sooner than I did. Eventually I chose a final layout, assembled, quilted and labeled it, then sent it off to its new home.

Here’s the finished quilt, and some of the alternatives below.
